The Korea Expressway Corporation announced that it would expand the 'rest-mileage' system introduced for truck drivers to comply with break times to 180 locations on eight routes.
The break-mileage system ì†Œì•¡ê²°ì œ 현금화 was introduced in May of last year to prevent drowsy driving of trucks.
The expanded areas include 7 rest areas and 14 rest areas on the Jungbu Expressway (Nami JC - Hobeop JC) and Namhae Expressway (Haman IC - Seobusan IC).
As a result, the rest-mileage system was introduced in 87 out of 201 rest areas (43%) and 93 out of 232 rest areas (40%) for drowsiness.
Since the introduction of the break-mileage system, 8301 truck drivers have certified 459,276 breaks.
The Road Corporation explained that the number of truck accidents caused by drowsiness and negligence on the implementation route decreased by 27%.
"We will continue to expand the more info rest-mileage system and make efforts to reduce the number of fatalities in traffic accidents, ì†Œì•¡ê²°ì œ 현금화 " said an official from the Road Corporation.
